New products from our hygiene department

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

In our continued effort to provide the best products and services to our patients, we want to share some exciting new products you will see from our hygiene department.

Enamel Pro Prophy Paste:

  • Enamel Pro is the only prophy paste formulated to deliver amorphous calcium phosphate.  ACP is an inorganic compound made by combining the soluble salts of calcium sulfate and dipotassium phosphate.
  • Challengers such as acidic foods, systemic diseases, and poor plaque control can affect the integrity of tooth enamel.
  • ACP-forming ingredients also strengthen teeth by acting as an enhanced fluoride delivery system to deliver more fluoride than products without ACP.

Eclipse Fluoride Varnish:

  • Eclipse is a white Fluoride Varnish that safely and effectively provides the maximum amount of fluoride possible to your teeth.
  • Fluoride varnish has been found to provide a higher concentration of fluoride over a longer period of time and was tolerated better by younger children, and had less ingestion.
  • Indications for Fluoride Varnish include:
    • Routine prevention for anyone who may not brush well or regularly
    • Newly erupted teeth
    • Incipient caries lesions
    • Margins of restorations of all types
    • Orthodontic patients
    • Demineralized enamel
    • Over sealants at recalls
    • Post perio surgery
    • Bulimic patients

Oral health for your toddler

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Children should first go to the dentist around the age of 3, unless they are having problems prior to that.

By the time your child is 3, he or she should have a complete set of 20 baby teeth.

Around the age of 3, your child should be learning to brush using a simple brushing technique-such as a small circular brushing motion.  However, make sure you brush for them afterward to ensure their teeth and gums are properly cleaned.

Use only a pea-sized amount of children’s fluoride toothpaste, and teach them to spit out excess paste so they don’t swallow it.

Oral health for your baby

Even before they have teeth, infants should have their gums cleaned. Use a gauze pad or infant washcloth after feedings and before bedtime.

Start brushing your baby’s teeth when the first one appears (usually between four months and one year)

Avoid putting your baby to bed with his or her bottle.

Pregnancy and the first year of your baby’s life are a very special time.  You’ll want to think about taking good care of yourself and getting your baby’s life off to a healthy start.  Your oral health is an important part of your overall health.  Good oral health habits not only help prevent oral problems during pregnancy, they can also affect the health of your unborn child.

Before your baby arrives, eat a balanced diet.  What you eat during the nine months of pregnancy affects the development of your unborn child-including their teeth.  Your baby’s teeth begin to develop between the third and sixth month of pregnancy, so it is important that you receive sufficient amounts of nutrients especially calcium, protein, phosphorous, and vitamins A, C, and D.

Hygiene Study Club

Monday, January 12th, 2009

The Hygiene Department at Grove City Family Dentistry is excited to announce a new study club for dental hygienists.  Our goal is to form a network with other hygienists that will provide an open forum for discussion and growth.  This will allow all participants to gain knowledge of the latest research, products, and technology in delivering quality patient care.  This type of learning enables us, as health professionals, to truly provide our patients with the superior care they expect and deserve.
