Diary of a GCHS Basketball Player

Sorry for the long delay. It has been a busy two weeks. Basketball was slowing down because of the tournament. We had games on wednesdays. First we played Franklin Heights and won easily, followed by another win over Independence. Afterwards, we played Watterson last Wednesday. We were down by 16 at half time and might have looked like we had given up. We are a good outside shooting team, but that game our shots just didn’t fall. In the second half, we had major runs. With a minute and a half left, it was tied. Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish it. Our season ended there. We made it to third round in the tournaments and a season of 18-5. The banquet will wrap up our season. Swart and Damron are both playing for college as of now. Good luck ladies! Hopefully we will have a good team next year.We will start open gyms in the spring and have a summer league. So make sure you go out and vote (:

This week we had out last games of the season. First on Tuesday, we played Independence on senior night. The seniors were recognized and given flowers and build-a-bears. That game proved to be an easy win with a finishing score of 75-42. Watts finished with 26, Damron with 14, and Swart with 8. Friday was another story. We went up againist Pick Central who we lost to the first time by 7. This time, we went in with two thoughts:box out and find Harmon, a 6 ft 2 post going to play for OSU. The first half ended with us down by seven. The second half was back and forth, up by 2 or down by 2. Watts fouled out half way through the fourth quarter, making it tricky down low. With less than a minute left in the game, the Tigers were able to come around us. We lost 68-62. We just couldn’t finish it. Harmon hurt us with 22 points and so did their 7 three’s. The regular season is now over with 16 wins 4 losses. Highlights of the year were beating Reynoldsburg both times, Swart blocking OSU bound Harmon, Beavers being 1st in the central ohio for assists, Damron with countless three’s in times of need, and Watts scoring a few times over 20. Now, we look forward to the tournament with our first game against Franklin Heights Wednesday at Harvest Prep.

Basketball is going good. Last week we played two home games vs. Newark and Gahanna. Newark was a tough game for us; last time finishing with a win by 3 points. This time however, we were out and ready to play coming out with a 60 to 41 victory. High scorers were Watts with 18, Espenschied with 14, and Swart and Damron each putting up 9. Gahanna was another story. After the first half we were down going into half time with a score of 32 to 20. However, we pulled out with a victory late in the third quarter. Watts with another 18 points and Beavers with 10. We have two more regular season games left, and tuesday is the last home game and senior night for Courtney Swart and Chelsie Damron. We are playing Independence on Tuesday and hoping to seek revenge on Pickerington Central this Friday. Come out and support us (:

Hi, I’m Brooke Espenschied. My dentist, Dr. Zimmerman, wants me to start blogging on here every week or two. I have known her for about 5 years now, and she has always been into my sports by encouraging me, cheering me on, and putting out a good word. Grove City Family Dentistry is also very generous with my sports and sponsors me, their name is on my poster hanging in the gym. Well, to write a little bit about me, I go to Grove City High School as a freshman. I play tennis and varsity basketball there, #1. Running is one of my favorite things to do. I’m on the honor roll and work really hard on my grades. I have many role models that I look up to and keep me on the right path. That’s about it for now, more later!
